APM Terminals signs $550m port deal in Bangladesh

APM Terminals has signed a $550m deal to build a new container terminal in Bangladesh. The 30-year concession for the Laldia Container Terminal in Chattogram will allow larger ships to call at the Asian nation’s largest port.

Once operational in 2030, the terminal will expand Bangladesh’s annual port handling capacity by over 800,000 teu. The new deepwater facility will, over time, allow the port of Chattogram to handle vessels potentially up to 6,000 teu, compared to the current limit of 2,800 teu.

Maersk, APM Terminals’ sister company, handles almost 30% of all containers in and out of Bangladesh.
