Instead of using a PIN code, enables MSC containers to be released for transport using ID and biometric data.
After a successful test phase in 2022 with Van Moer Logistics and MSC PSA European Terminal (MPET), MSC Mediterranean Shipping Company is the first shipping company in the world to offer ID-based container pick-up.
Rather than using a PIN code, this technology enables MSC containers to be released for transport using ID and biometric data, enhancing supply chain security.
MSC containers can now be picked up at the terminal by scanning the haulier’s Alfapass, biometric data, and a specific Truck Appointment Reference (TAR) code at the In-Gate, rather than using a PIN code, as part of the ongoing rollout of Secure Container Release (SCR) at MPET.
The pick-up procedure is made safer and more effective by employing this combined strategy.
The underlying blockchain technology used by SCR was developed and tested for more than five years by technology specialists T-Mining. MSC successfully tested the technology with partners Van Moer Logistics and MPET.
Nearly three years ago, MSC was one of the first airlines to test T-Mining’s SCR technology. The project is now entering the final phase of its rollout, which aims to make it possible for container release to be completely secure and free of PIN codes.
Currently, MSC and MPET are the only businesses that have reached this final stage, which will increase supply chain security.
Preparing for SCR: Container removal at MPET will no longer require a PIN code as of June 1, 2023. As a result, it will be necessary for everyone in the supply chain to prepare accordingly and allow for the transfer of a container’s release via SCR.
SCR complies with Antwerp’s current harbor police regulations by directly transferring the container release rights rather than downloading a PIN code. The ID-based pick-up technology is further future-proofed by incorporating biometric information into the collection procedure.
The supply chain’s security for workers and cargo will improve as a result of this technology’s integration.
